Our family has always had a passion for what is truly sustainable and have dedicated our lives to it across many industries. Our BetterWorld store is one expression of that, but we’d love to offer more. Regenerative farming has so much potential for us all and we’re keen to support more of it. Where better to do that than the home of the conservation movement? It turns out our vision for a more sustainable future is shared by many here and that’s what we’re now inviting everyone to be a part of. We’d love for you to help shape that vision, and help foster a more prosperous tomorrow for the whole community. We see a potential here for not just preserving Milford’s charm, but amplifying it to bring about a better world for everyone. You see, it’s more than a store name, it’s our shared goal for humanity.

Twists and turns of life have taken me to many places, and in each place I’ve lived, I’ve witnessed encroaching development drastically change entire communities. From complete neighborhood demographic turnovers in Brooklyn, NY, to the development of seemingly every square foot of jungle in Tulum, Mexico, to an international airport being built on Maui by the time I moved off island, I've always returned home to Milford as a refuge from the spreading concrete chaos of the worlds I had lived in and traveled to. I love this town. I grew up here. Our town is growing - there's no denying it, and there's no stopping it. It's how we grow that will determine the quality of our lives here. To me, the Santos Farm vision represents food resiliency for our community, as well as a wonderful educational center for us all to learn, to gather, to get to know one another, and to share our skills and our experiences. And to have fun! I grew up just a few miles outside of Milford, PA, and after graduating DV high school, earned a BA in Social Anthropology from Brandeis University. I bring experience in event production and management, community project management, product development, and performance arts. Passionate about natural medicine, I produce a line of handcrafted herbal and CBD products, as well as a line of crystal infused clothing with my small business, Wolfe Lane. I host a monthly open mic in Milford called the Time's Right Open Mic, and am lead vocalist for Big Ska. I am a board member of both the Delaware Water Gap Defense Fund and the Dingmans Ferry Theatre.

Hi, I’m Carissa, a lifelong resident of Milford PA. Though I’ve briefly left the area for education and various adventures, Milford always draws me home. I’m so proud to be the 13th generation of my family growing deep roots here since 1700’s. So many of my ancestors farmed these lands such as the Black Walnut and Wheat Plains, and were fiber workers at the family factory in Child’s Park. It saddens me to see all of that is gone now and I can't bear to watch another local gem disappear into the concrete jungle. It excites me to be a part of building a community hub where we can get our hands in the soil, get back to our roots and create a more sustainable future for our children.

I have lived on the Santos Farm properties for over 16 years. My roots go back to farming when my grandparents and relatives worked their dairy farms in Sussex County. I still have many fond memories of visiting the farms as a kid from the "city", Clifton NJ before moving to Sussex County when I was in the fifth grade. I have explored for countless hours the fields and orchards on the Santos Farm. I'm passionate about this effort to preserve the farmland for community use and enjoyment rather than seeing it developed. I believe our goals align closely with Gifford Pinchot's conservation beliefs. "Conservation means the wise use of the earth and its resources for the lasting good of men." - Gifford Pinchot

After living abroad and 28 yrs of running the matrix wheel in NYC, I realized the life I created for myself was unsustainable. I climbed the corporate ranks in advertising/branding/design, but was no closer to understanding myself or my connection to the Earth. I was running harder and faster, yet still running in place. After an existential breakdown in 2009, my attention turned towards a more conscious lifestyle of holistic health/herbalism/meditation/yoga/reiki. Today, as an Intuitive Life Coach, I’m dedicated to helping others reconnect to themselves and to the world around them. In support of leading a more balanced lifestyle, I left the city in 2020 and moved to a small farm in Milford, PA which gave me the opportunity to reconnect to myself, to the Earth and to the Divine. What was meant to be a 1-yr retreat has kindled a passion within me for living closer to nature, detoxing from heavy metals, living more mindfully upon the Earth and sourcing my own food + medicine. I’ve come to realize that when we disconnect from the land, we forget how to be human. Saving Santos Farm is a way I can share my passion for conscious living + sustainable being. It has changed my life for the better; it can change yours as well.

Originally from Central New Jersey, I'm passionate about food accessability and preservation, mushroom cultivation, and community. Over the years I've lived in seven different states in the US. While living in West Virginia, I was inspired by how tight-knit the fabric of community could be. People really band together and make a true difference for one another. This is the appeal of the Santos Farm project for me - it gives people the opportunity to come together, share talents and resources, and help each other. While in North Carolina we had a plant nursery, Winn Family Garden, where we experimented with small sized permacultre gardening in a retail setting, including an intensive mycology grow. There was also a strong educational component, which is very important to me. I've been in the sphere of environmental science and activism for a long time. I attended environmental science camp until I was an adult, and the gratitude and emotional stability I receive from being in nature keeps me grounded. This passion turned into me falling in love with my very own scientist, my husband Anthony, a former fisheries biologist and naturalist. I hope you enjoy my Science Monday series of posts on our Save Santos Farm social media! Bonus... I also studied pastry making in NYC. If you'd like to sample some of my delicious creations, check out the pastry counter at BetterWorld in Milford!
